About Us

Mantra - Give more than you take.

Pedal Punk was created as a way to document the places and people a washed up never was BMXer, Danny Turney, rode with during his return to pedals.

Like many Danny rode BMX bikes as a teenager into his early 20's. He then found himself at a dead end road pretty much homeless, alone, and had to give up pedals to focus on building a life.

From a very humble beginning, and a very unstable abusive childhood, his is a story of overcoming odds with pure grit.

Having worked framing houses and changing tires since he was as young as 8 years old, he built strong work ethic. This came in handy when he was hired in 2002 by a fortune 500 company to load trucks on a dock. Danny did not have a formal education, but worked his way up through the company to eventually manage 10's of millions of dollars in business.

Along the way he was turned down for multiple promotions due to not having a degree. So he pursued Firefighting, and got on a volunteer department. As soon as he finished fire academy he was then promoted by his corporate job to a position he had been turned down for previously. So he worked 60 hour weeks for corporate, and also volunteered as many as 4 , 24 hour shifts a month at the fire department. All while starting a family with his wife having two kids.

This went on for 11 years. Danny found his passion for bikes again in 2018 and went fully into the sport. From mountain bikes, gravel, bmx racing, dirt jumping, and everything in between.

In 2019 he took a test to go full time with a firefighting career. After getting hired he quit his corporate job he had worked for 17 years. This freed up time to ride more. Only having a few photos from his time riding in the 90's, Danny decided he would document his rides, not just for him, but also to share with those he rides with. So they would have clips and photos to look back on later in life.

This hobby caught traction on social media. Pedal Punk merch was born. The goal is to be a conduit for the community to reinvest in itself, through promotional give aways, and jam style event sponsorships. The more the brand sells the more that is given back.

Note from Danny:

" Thanks for the kind words and summary. Nothing gets me more stoked than seeing a rider get a new line, or jump, or trick for the first time. It's that feeling we are all chasing, no matter what style bike we ride. Thanks to all that support me, or just hang out with me for the ride. It's a shame events, and riders have to stop due to lack of sponsors. I hope to give back to those that keep driving this sport forward. "
